Chapter 1 A hopeless day

Remesias ran, panting as the sound of sharp legs clattered around him.

His squad was running with him, barely managing to keep pace.

The screeches of the Insectoids behind them grew louder and louder.

“The choke point is coming! Get ready with the explosives Noman!” -Remesias

“Yes sir, Explosives are ready!” -Noman

As they passed the choke point, Noman dropped the explosives. They quickly hide behind cover and Remesias detonates the explosives.

3 separate explosions beeped in unison, BOOM!
The choke point blocked the entrance for the insectoids. However the noise of them scattering away could be heard.

“That should’ve killed a few dozen of them, but they are literal bugs so they can get out if they aren’t fully crushed.” -Remesias

“This job might be to tough for us captain. There were at least 70 of those buggers in these ruins.” -Moad

“Yeah, there was a lot, but considering this is a C class exterminate mission, it most mean there might be at least hundred of these damn monsters.” -Moad

“We knew going in this was going to be risky, we need the Creds so we will have to make do with this.” -Remesias

“We don’t have enough ammo to shoot them all down, the best we can get is maybe 25 of them and that’s if the ammo can penetrate their bodies.” - Noman

“Yeah, we have to rely those if we get into a pinch. The thing we have to be warry of is if there is any signal ants. If we find one we have to kill it first. If they all come in we are dead.” - Remesias

“Yes sir, lets check the damage done on the roof.” -Noman

They begin to scale the walls of the ruins, careful not to fall. A slight buzzing in the distance can be heard as they reach the top.

“Looks like th️e strategy did work, can confirm with our scans, 12 ants dead within the rubble. But what is concerning is that there is at least 20 around the rubble.” -Noman

“Strange our first scan showed that these patrols were all in separate places in these ruins.” -Remesias

“They still are…” -Moad

“That’s not great, by any chance can you find out where they are coming from?” -Remesias

“The best my scans can do, is 15 feet under the current surface. And it appears there are several tunnels going down. Both man made and ant alike.” -Noman

“Hmmm, Then we might have to back out of this mission.” -Remesias

“Agreed, to many unknown variables that popped up for a C rank mission.” -Noman

“I guess we got find a quick job if we want to eat.” -Moad

“We can eat, just not any of the taste packs Moad.” -Noman

“Oh come on, the basic Life Packs are so bland!” -Moad

“Because its just to survive off of, and its suppose to be cheap.” -Remesias

Moad sulked as they began to head back to their ship.

A nearby loud screech vibrates across the ruin, the ants begin to mobilize. Remesias looked around towards the screech and noticed something - a small sheen that contrasted the ruins.

“Noman, check your scans…” -Remesias

“What the, they are heading towards us? Was that thing a beacon for them?”

“That is new, is this some sort of relay unit?” - Remesias

“We can’t stay here, we got to go now.”-Moad

They began their descent, and head towards the path to the ship.

“Noman, give me eyes are they able to still track us.” -Noman

“They don’t seem to directly follow us, they heading straight to where we were.” -Noman

“Good, lets use that time and set some traps, chances are they are going to track us and-” -Remesias

Another ant relay unit pops up and begins screech. Moad shoots it, as the distant scrapping comes closer.

“How the hell did we miss these things?” -Moad

“And why aren’t the scans detecting them.” -Noman

“Regardless, we need to leave now drop some of the traps as we run. Noman, we need a clear path away from these things. Me and Moad will keep our eyes out for those relay units.” -Remesias

The scraping in the distance gets closer, as the three reach the ship.

An explosion is set off, buying time and hopefully killing some of the ants.

But bad luck appears again, another relay unit pops up and screeches. This time, Remesias grabs it and runs in away from the group.

“Listen I’ll try to steer them away from the ship, do not get caught. Get on the ship and be ready to book it.” - Remesias.

Remesias runs with the Relay insect, trying to find a way out of this situation. Once Noman confirmed that the insects are heading to Remesias, Remesias kills the Relay. And heads deeper into the ruins.

Noman gives info on the ants current position, as Remesias weaves through the ruins. The ants however, are slowly gaining in number towards Remesias. Eventually boxing him into what appears to be the prison area of the ruins.

Remesias catches his breathe and leans on the wall. He quickly falls over into the wall. Remesias confused wondered what happened as he gets up. He looks back to realize that he stumbled into a hidden room.
“Fake wall? But why in this room?” -Remesias
A hole as black as space was the only thing the room hid, Remesias tried to see how far the bottom was but his lights didn’t reach far enough.
“Damn it, who knows how far this hole goes. This might be one of the holes dug by the ants.” -Remesias
Insectoids can be heard coming, to the room. Remesias froze, unsure if insectoids can see him through the fake wall. An insectoid entered clearing following Remesias’s tracks. Slowly, coming closer and closer to the fake wall. Remesias readied his rifle, but then heard Noman say that a whole swarm is heading to where he is.

He slowly moved back to the hole, the insectoid staring at him through the fake will came closer and closer.

The insectoid leaped into the fake wall only to find no one there.

Remesias jumped into the hole, praying that the bottom is manageable.

Noman, loses contact with Remesias.
