Chapter 5 Concealment
As Remesias grinned like a child, a buzzing from his pants caught his attention .
“Wait a minute, my coms it still works!”
He pulled out his Communicator and discovered that Noman and Moad were trying to contact him.
“Of course it would be working, I didn’t fight… though the pocket dimension might have interfered with the connection. Coming back should have reset everything. I wonder if the Darkness transformation interferes with this as well”
Correct
“I see, any way I should-” Remesias gazed at his communicator.
“This is not simple, I must hide what happened, but I can’t hide that I am alive. If anyone finds out I found a Z-Cache, I’d be hunted down and experimented on. That’s the best case scenario, Chaos gods finding out would be the worst. I am too weak to even stop that from happening. Strength is the only answer to any of these scenarios.”
Remesias tightens his grip on the communicator and lets out a deep breath. He opens the communicator and scans the notifications – 8 missed calls, and 7 missed messages.
“How long have I been gone-”
3 days 6 hours
“Great, this will be difficult to explain how I survived 3 days with no food and no weapons.”
Remesias sat atop of the dead ant.
“I have to grow stronger and hide my powers, I can’t pretend to be dead and pop up again, that causes more eyes on me. Plus I couldn’t get the money from the Mercenaries Association contract!”
...
“What!? If I am going to exterminate the planet might as well be paid for it!”
...
“Whatever, If I say I am alive I have to explain that I found a way to survive… I found a cave that the ants didn’t appear to enter. I explored it to find dead bodies. That smell I was able to hide in. And there were food in the bodies, from previous Adventurers. That sounds plausible.”
Once you've analyzed the ants' behavior, you decide to venture out and attempt to establish communication with them.
“Yes! The underground would be too deep to get a signal and now I can send an SOS message for help. But wait, I have to stay here. I can’t go back yet.”
Remesias’s communicator begins to ring, Noman is calling.
“Damn it”
Remesias answers the call.
“Remesias! You answered! Where are you? Are you okay?” - Noman
“Noman, I am alive, location not entirely sure. How are you and Moad?” - Remesias
“We are fine, with your diversion we got to the ship. We waited for you, but-” - Noman
“It’s fine Noman, you did what you needed to do.”- Remesias
“Still, sorry to leave you brother.” - Noman
“Don’t worry brother, I hold no grudge over this.” Remesias grinned
“That’s good to hear, how can we get you out of there now?”- Noman
“Out? We still got a job to finish?” - Remesias
“Boss, with all do respect, we are not able to finish this, there are too many of the insectoids. Its practically a colony at this point.” - Noman
“A contract is a contract.” - Remesias
“Moad quit after the second day. We tried to continue, but the scale is too large. Q”
“Great we split the reward halfway now.” - Remesias
“Boss” - Noman
“Look he quit, and in fact I was going to offer a good deal for you two.” - Remesias
“What deal?”- Noman
“I found a way to kill the colony.” - Remesias
“What how did you? Wait a minute what happened down there brother?” - Noman
“After being chased I found a tunnel full of corpses. I hid there for a while. It seems the smell was able to hide my presence from scouts. Some of those corpses had previous adventurers surprisingly. So I looted their stuff and found food and some intel about the colony.”
“That’s a stroke of luck! What did you find?” - Noman
“Can’t say, its a trade secret” - Remesias
“Boss come on” - Noman
“Trust me its info no one must know. Anyway continuing with the deal. I will exterminate the colony and you get your split of the reward.” - Remesias
“What’s the catch?” - Noman
“Simple, you say it was a simple extermination job of a hundred ants like was said in the contract.” - Remesias
“But it wasn’t in fact this should be a B-” -Noman
“Yes, but they don’t care about that, they only care that the contract is done. They wouldn’t believe us anyway thinking we are trying to nickel and dime them.” - Remesias
“Then we need Moad back.” - Noman
“Yes, we need Moad back to make sure our stories align. So just offer him the same thing. You both will get the rewards once its done and all you have to do is say nothing else. Sound good?” - Remesias
“That sounds to good to be true.” - Noman
“Well what I am about to say might sound worse then.” - Remesias
“What will sound worse” - Noman
“I need you to get all the contracts for exterminating Insectoids for this planet, and accept them.” - Remesias
“WHAT?! Boss we can’t even complete this one how do you expect to-” - Noman
“Brother, trust me. The same deal applies to all of these extermination contracts okay? You do nothing and let me handle it. Okay? Look why don’t I complete this contract and then you decide alright?” - Remesias
“Sigh okay boss, I’ll think about it. But this is a hard thing to wrap my head around boss. Is this … a Tem situation?” - Noman
“… yes. Brother, I didn’t want to bring her up-” - Remesias
“That’s all I needed to hear brother. I’ll try to get Moad to accept without any other headaches. I have one last question.” - Noman
“Go ahead” - Remesias
“Will you be safe?” - Noman
“Ha! No, but I will find a way.” - Remesias
“Okay brother, I’ll keep in touch to make sure you are still alive.”- Noman.
“Thank you brother signing off” - Remesias
Remesias hangs up and has unease on his face.
“Tem… my situation is better, but not as bad as Tem’s. They will pay for that brother, I swear it. But for now you must stay as far away as you can. Tem, please keep your brother safe if you can.”
Remesias stands up and begins the extermination of the Insectoids.
